Whole
Wheat Beer Bread
1 ½ cups all
purpose flour1 ½ cups whole wheat flour
4 ½ teaspoons baking powder
1 ½ teaspoons salt
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1 (12 ounce) can or bottle beer
Preheat
the oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan. In a large
mixing bowl, combine the all purpose flour, whole wheat flour, baking powder,
salt and brown sugar. Pour in the beer and stir until a stiff batter is formed.
It may be necessary to mix dough with your hands. Scrape the dough into the
loaf pan. Bake for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center
comes out clean. Makes 12 servings. Note: The type of beer used will affect the
flavor of the bread. For a lighter bread, use a pale ale. For a darker,
heartier bread, use a stout or dark ale.
Enjoy! - Riley
